A little bit of nostalgia

IMG_0081This squeezes my heart a little… or actually, rather a lot.

It’s hard to tell size in photographs, but to give you a better idea,
these sweet little guys are in an egg box.
Normally an egg box holds a few cartons of 24 eggs in a single stack.
But in this case it held;
A heating pad, a wool vest, and five chubby 10 day old puppies.
Their ears have just come down at this point,
but their eyes remain tightly closed.

It was their birthday yesterday, they turned Seven!
Sometimes I wonder what their reaction would be,
if I offered them a warm bottle now….

The lonesome howl of a solitary Wolf

Tags

IMG_4571Truthfully, Wolfie wasn’t really lonesome at all… the rest of his pack was just in the backyard, and they were all howling together with the big old train as it passed by the ranch blowing it’s whistle.  These guys love any excuse to sing together, and oh what a song!

Quietly watching over the day’s close

IMG_5407What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs.
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad day light,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can,
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
